In wet and windy conditions a dogged Gwent defence kept out Cardiff and the Vale for long periods of the game.

Two breakaway tries against the run of play to the Gwent outfit, compared with one try from Cardiff and the Vale saw Gwent take a first half lead.

Although Cardiff and the Vale applied all the pressure to the Gwent line, Gwent managed to keep the whitewash intact, holding the home side up on several occasions.

With Cardiff getting the majority of both possession and territory, the final pass went astray once too often for the home coaches, and following a stern word at half time, Cardiff tightened up, and played a more controlled game in the second half, running away with the match in the latter stages.

Mentions must go to the whole Gwent pack, who’s dogged determination kept the Cardiff side out, however strong carrying from Reuben Tucker, and great control from halfbacks Harry Robinson and Tom Bird gave centre Josh Hurley opportunity to shine on such a dull evening.

Cardiff left it late to seal a well deserved victory, and can now look onto their end of season tour to North Italy with great confidence.
