Teddy commits his future to Cardiff in latest boost to club

First Team News | 27th July 2023

Teddy Williams has committed to his hometown club after penning a new contract with Cardiff.

The homegrown lock is a member of Wales’ squad ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France and will be looking to build on a breakthrough campaign at the Arms Park.

Son of former Blue and Blacks back row, the late Owain Williams, Teddy made his first team debut in 2020 against Leinster.

The 22-year-old lock has since gone on to make a total of 26 appearance for Cardiff, with more than half of those matches coming during 2022/23.

The former Ysgol Glantaf product said: “I’ve really enjoyed this past season, getting more opportunities in the first team, and now I’m looking forward to building on that in the future.

“I love playing here at the Arms Park and we’ve enjoyed some really memorable wins. Hopefully we can get more of those moving forward.

”That Sale game will stay long in the memory for me, but so will wins over the likes of Stormers.

“There’s a lot of change here with some influential players moving on but it’s an opportunity for a lot of the younger boys to step up now and try to take the club forward.

“It’s definitely an exciting challenge for us as a group. There will be some ups-and-down along the way, but hopefully the younger group can come through and grab the bull by the horns.

“I’ve got a lot of close friends here and coming to training each day is enjoyable.”

Williams, who has progressed through all of Cardiff’s age-grade teams and is currently in Turkey with the national squad, is the latest home grown star to pen fresh terms.

His signature follows fellow Cardiffians Theo Cabango and Ben Thomas, as well as seven academy stars, who will transition to the first team squad.
