The Cardiff Tag Rugby team travel to Leeds with the Cardiff Blues this weekend looking to complete a ‘Grand Slam’ of junior victories over the Blues’ opponents in the Pool stage of the Heineken Cup.

The Cardiff Under 11 side have already beaten Leeds at home and Calvisano away, and go into Sunday’s half-time game with a 100% record as ‘All Roads Lead to Cardiff’ in the build up to the city hosting the 2006 Heineken Cup Final on Saturday 20 May.

The 10 strong Cardiff Tag Team, chosen from the local Under 11s have been the city’s ambassadors for the competition, in an initiative organised by Sport.Cardiff, the sports development arm of Cardiff Council, European Rugby Cup (ERC) and Cardiff Blues.

Nigel Howells, Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture said: “It would be great for the boys to complete a ‘Grand Slam’ on the weekend. This has been a great experience for them in their rugby development, and they have served the city well as we build up to this season’s final.”

The Tag Rugby initiative has been set up to promote Cardiff as the host city for this season’s Heineken Cup final and create further cultural links between each of the rugby playing regions, showing the young people of Europe coming together under the banner of rugby union.
