Supporters gearing up for Gloucester trip

30th March 2017

A Cardiff Blues contingent approaching 1,000 is set to descend on Kingsholm for Saturday's European Challenge Cup quarter-final clash with Gloucester.

Anticipation has been at fever pitch since the draw was made following the pool stages of the competition.

Cardiff Blues have fond memories of the iconic ground having triumphed there with 14-men as they beat the Cherry and Whites on three occasions during the 2008-09 season.

And with a place in the last four up for grabs, supporters of Wales’ Capital Region have voted with their feet and will cross the border en masse.

More than 600 tickets were snapped up from Cardiff Blues, with numerous supporters buying directly from Gloucester. Cardiff Blues Supporters’ Club are running an official away trip with 250 signed up.

CBSC chairperson Sarah Hopkins said: “Everyone is really looking forward to this quarter final and although it will be a tough game, we have every faith that Cardiff Blues can get the result and get us to a European Semi-Final.

“We know our travelling support will be in good voice but we’d also ask that supporters bring flags, scarves and banners in support of the boys to make ourselves seen as well as heard, so that we can give the boys the best possible support and be their 16th man”

A crowd of more than 10,000 is expected at Kingsholm with a semi-final against either Edinburgh or La Rochelle up for grabs.

Gloucester chief executive Stephen Vaughan said: “Cardiff-Gloucester games are traditionally very fierce if you look back over the annals of many years.
“There’s a huge contingent of Cardiff Blues supporters coming up. We have reams and reams of their coaches coming and they’re going to try to turn it into a home game.”
