Back row James Botham has called Cardiff’s match against Munster on Friday night at the Arms a ‘huge game’ in their season.
Both teams are still in with a chance of reaching the knockout with the Blue and Blacks in 6th and Munster a spot behind.
If Cardiff are successful in making the playoffs, it would mark the first time Botham has reached the business end of the competition after nearly ten years with the club and something that ‘would mean everything’ to him.
“It’s nice to be playing for something,” said Botham.
“I think it’s the first time since I’ve been here that we’ve been in the playoffs, top eight. It’s going to be a huge game.
“I’ve been here since nearly 10 years now and it would mean everything.
“You always want to play for stuff and to have a chance of getting in any sort of silverware would be amazing.
“I kind of can’t wait for the game and it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out.”
Botham believes Cardiff will have to be at their best to defeat a Munster side who can pose plenty of threats.
“They’re very good in the contact area, hold up, slow ball down, which suits their game.
“But they’ve obviously got threats all across the board, really.
“It’ll just be us having to play the best we’ve played all season and that’s what we’re going to have to do to get the five points.
The 27-year-old praised Cardiff’s supporters and says it would be ‘massive’ for them if Cardiff were to finish in the final eight.
“It’ll be massive for the fans, because they’ve been great all year, but to finish on a high for the season, to give ourselves the best shot at the playoffs and also to finish for the fans, it would be massive.
The versatile Botham can play anywhere in the back row, but suffering several injuries over the last couple of seasons, he’s doesn’t care where he plays and it just happy to be on the field.
“I’m just grateful to be on the field, to be honest. Six, seven or eight,” added Botham.
“I’ve always said it from day one, just being out there and being able to run out on the field and play.
“I don’t take it for granted. I’ve had so many niggles and injuries in the past, that just to be out there and playing is kind of the cherry on top.”
