Cardiff Rugby have continued to plan for the future by awarding Gabe Williams with an educational scholarship at the club.
Williams is the latest player from the recent Under-18s group at Cardiff Arms Park to agree a scholarship.
The deal will see the second-row continue his development within the Cardiff Rugby academy system while combining rugby commitments and studies at Cardiff Met.
Academy Manager Gruff Rees commented “It is brilliant news that Gabe will continue in our pathway and we have worked closely with Ian Gardner and the staff at Cardiff Met to ensure he will get excellent high performance support while continuing with his educational aspirations.
“He is a fantastic character and has shown real commitment this season. He has huge athletic ability, understands his role at set-piece and open play, and has a real desire to keep improving.
“We feel we are building our front five succession planning nicely and I’m so pleased that Cardiff Met will support this. Three of our Under-18 players will represent the Met next year (also Dylan Barratt and Jack Clease) and I know they will progress really well while gaining the fantastic experiences that university provides.”
The former CRICC, Ysgol Plasmawr and Ysgol Glantaf pathway player has represented Cardiff at Under-16 and 18 level and recently represented Wales Under-18s in the Six Nations festival.
