Wales fully focused on bouncing back - Carré

First Team News | 4th November 2020

Rhys Carré insists Wales are fully focused on bouncing back from last week's defeat to Scotland, as they turn their attention to the upcoming Autumn Nations Cup campaign.

The Cardiff Blues academy product put Wales ahead in the first half, scoring his first try on the international stage, but it was not enough as Gregor Townsend's men mounted a comeback to claim a narrow victory in the Guinness Six Nations finale.

The prop admits his try was a bittersweet moment due to the defeat but reveals the side are working extremely hard ahead of the clash against Ireland in two weeks.

"It was obviously a disappointing performance. We wanted to put it right this week after the performance last week in France. Unfortunately it didn’t go to plan and now we’ve got the Autumn Nations Cup coming up in two weeks. All our focus now goes towards that," said Carré.

"The conditions are never an excuse, we should be good enough to adapt and play our own game. It didn’t go right but now we’ll put a line in the sand.

"We’re giving it everything, putting everything out there on the field, and sometimes things just don’t go your way. We’re in a period of rough form at the moment but now our focus is on Ireland in two weeks and we’ll do everything we can to try and win that game.

"I think every youngster dreams of running in a try for Wales from 50 yards, but unfortunately for me mine was a standard prop’s try with a pick and go. I’ll take it and it’s something I’m really proud of.

"Ireland are obviously a really good team but we’ve got two weeks to work on what we need to work on and hopefully we will go into that game flying."
