A Robbie Davies ‘fund raiser’ fixture will be played at Brecon RFC, 12 noon kick off, Saturday 11th November 2006 between a Senior Breconshire County Squad XV and Wales Clubs XV.
Robbie Davies is a 22 year old hooker who suffered a serious neck injury during a freak accident at the scrummage whilst playing for Brecon RFC v Ynysbwl RFC in a National League Division 3 East fixture last season. The injury has left Robbie wheelchair bound and he has since been a regular outpatient to the Rookwood Spinal Injuries Hospital in Cardiff where he has undergone physiotherapy and impulse therapy to stimulate nerves and muscles.
Robbie is a young man whose obvious love for the game is hugely evident. He has touched the hearts of not only the local Breconshire Community but also those within the Cardiff Blues set up and we feel that we would like to assist Robbie in some way that he would approve of.
This game would hopefully serve to assist Robbie with some financial assistance he so urgently requires towards making improvements to enhance he current living arrangements etc.
The Wales Clubs were launched last season by the WRU as a full national representative side, selected from players from Divisions 1 to 5. The Wales Clubs have recently returned from a national tournament in Belgium involving, Spain, Belgium and France Amateurs and will also play in a Five Nations style tournament in the New Year. With the full approval of the Welsh Rugby Union, they have given their full support towards playing this fixture and it will also serve as an opportunity for further match time together for their selected representative players against what should be a very competitive Breconshire Squad.
This is a big game for the region, the Breconshire community and Robbie himself. The match kicks off at 12.00 mid day which leaves plenty of time for those wishing to watch the Invesco Perpetual Series Wales V Pacific Islands game at the Millennium Stadium on the 2 big screens at Brecon RFC. Supporters can join the bidding for the number of special items of rugby memorabilia, including autographed Jerseys and rugby balls that will be auctioned off at the Clubhouse.
Robbie is a young man who is an example to us all and his zest for life and his love for rugby, even after suffering such adversity is inspirational. If we the rugby community can assist him in some way financially it would go a long way towards improving this young manÂ’s quality of life.
