Seven Cardiff Rugby Players Named in Wales’ Autumn Nations Championship Squads

Seven Cardiff Rugby players have been named in Steve Tandy’s 39-man Wales squad for the November fixtures of the inaugural Nations Championship.

Rhys Barratt, Liam Belcher, Teddy Williams, James Botham, Alex Mann, Taine Basham and Josh Adams have all been selected as Wales prepare to welcome Japan, New Zealand and Australia to Principality Stadium across three consecutive Saturdays.

The selection marks an important milestone for Barratt, who is one of three uncapped players named in the squad alongside Dragons scrum-half Che Hope and centre Aneurin Owen.

The loose-head prop could be set to earn his first senior international cap after being called-up for the Barbarians fixture ahead of the summer tour.

Belcher also returns to the international setup after being unavailable for the July window, while Basham’s impressive form earns a first call-up to the International setup since the Summer of 2023.

Cardiff’s selection includes a combination of international experience and emerging talent, with Josh Adams bringing an established presence in the backline and Botham and Mann providing a multitude of options across the back-row.

Wales head into the November window following three away fixtures against Fiji, Argentina and South Africa in July. The competition now returns to home soil, with Japan first up before encounters against New Zealand and Australia.

Tandy said: “It’s great to welcome back the players who were unavailable for the first three rounds of the Nations Championship. Added to that, there are a number of players who’ve been in great form for their clubs and so we wanted to give them an opportunity in the squad this autumn.

“We’re excited to head into our three home rounds of the competition. Principality Stadium is a special place to play and means an awful lot to the players. When we assemble as a group next week all eyes will be on that first home fixture against Japan and preparing well to put in a good performance for the fans.”

All three matches will take place at Principality Stadium, with the fixtures forming rounds four to six of the Nations Championship.

The competition will conclude with a Finals Weekend at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, where all 12 participating nations will compete for their final positions and points towards the overall north-versus-south standings.

All matches will be broadcast live on ITV and S4C, with tickets for Wales’ autumn home fixtures available now.
