Cardiff Blues captain Rhys Williams and hooker Rhys Thomas have both signed two year extensions to their contracts with the Blues, further boosting the long term plans of the squad.
Thomas, who won his first cap for Wales on the tour of North America during the Summer and also performed outstandingly in the Autumn internationals, is keen to stay with the Blues to develop his international career. The twenty three year old joined the Blues in 2002 and has made an impression on Cardiff Blues Director of Coaching, David Young.
“I’m obviously delighted to have signed the new contract. I feel I have developed and improved as a player with the Blues and to win my first cap this summer was a brilliant feeling. There is great morale within the squad and we feel that we are improving as a team with every game”. Said Rhys Thomas
Rhys Williams joined Cardiff in 1999 and was appointed captain this season. The 25 year old full back and wing is also keen to secure his future with the Blues.
“I have been with the Cardiff and the Blues my whole career and still have the desire and appetite to win trophies with them. It was a great honour to be appointed Captain and to lead the side. There is a real belief that we are progressing as a squad.” Said Rhys Williams
David Young speaking of the contracts added “To have two quality players such as Rhys Thomas and Rhys Williams sign new contracts is a real boost to the Blues. It shows our ambition that we are keen to hold on to such players in addition to the new signings we brought in over the summer. It also displays the confidence and the belief that the players and the coaches share in the structure of the Blues region that players want to develop their careers here”
