Jenkins’ first Wales squad announced

A number of experienced Wales internationals have been left out of the first Wales squad announced by new coach Gareth Jenkins.

Robert Sidoli, Rhys Thomas and Martyn Williams are amongst those regular internationals rested for the tour to Argentina.

There is still plenty of Cardiff Blues representation in the squad, with Getin Jenkins, Robin Sowden-Taylor, Jamie Robinson, Chris Czekaj, Nick Robinson and Mike Phillips all named.

Touring sides to Argentina always face a tough examination. Argentina are expected to be near full-strength, with Pumas coach Marcelo Loffreda naming a squad that includes all his overseas stars.

Wales are likely to face the attacking flair of Agustin Pichot, Felipe Contepomi and Ignacio Corleto, plus the brute forward force of the likes of Ignacio Fernandez Lobbe, Juan Manuel Leguizamon, Omar Hasan, Mario Ledesma and Rodrigo Roncero.

The Pumas play Wales on 11 June in Puerto Madryn, Patagonia, and on 17 June in Buenos Aires, before welcoming New Zealand to the capital on 24 June.
