Cardiff Rugby has today launched its new Sustainability Strategy, Forward Cardiff: From Pitch to Planet, setting out the club’s ambitions to deliver positive change for Climate, Nature and People.
The strategy was unveiled at an event at Cardiff Arms Park, hosted by former Wales international turned extreme endurance athlete Richard Parks, who has become a passionate climate change and environmental ambassador.
Guest speakers from principal partners RSK and Nature Positive, who were instrumental in developing the strategy, were among the sponsors and industry experts in attendance.
Launched during the club’s landmark 150th anniversary season, the strategy looks beyond Cardiff Rugby’s proud history and sets out how the Blue & Blacks can help create a greener, fairer and more resilient future for the club, its communities and the city it represents.
The strategy is shaped around three core pillars — Climate, Nature and People — encompassing nine focus areas: energy, climate resilience and travel; biodiversity, water, and waste and the circular economy; and community engagement, diversity and inclusion, and health and wellbeing.
It builds on work already under way across the club, from reducing its environmental footprint and improving recycling and energy efficiency, to the ongoing work of the Cardiff Rugby Community Foundation.
Cardiff Rugby Managing Director Jamie Muir said: “It was brilliant to launch our strategy at the Arms Park today and we are enormously grateful to Richard for hosting a superb event, and the likes of RSK and Nature Positive for providing industry expertise to some powerful discussions.
“Sustainability is not a standalone initiative. It runs through every part of the club, from rugby to our operations, our community and supporters. As we celebrate 150 years of Cardiff Rugby, this is about legacy and ensuring the next chapter for our club and our city is a positive one.
“Through our foundation we already do a huge amount within our community, recent partnerships with Keep Wales Tidy and Pugh’s Garden Village have allowed us to launch meaningful projects and the environment and sustainability forms part of every decision we make at the Arms Park.
“We look forward to building on this, using our influence and driving together for a greener, cleaner and healthier furture.”
The club’s vision is to become a leader in sustainable sport, driving change through action, partnership and inspiration, and using the reach of Cardiff Rugby to bring supporters, partners and communities along on that journey.
