Cowbridge minis and juniors sign up for Cardiff Blues season tickets

10th May 2013

All 230 mini and junior players from Cowbridge RFC have purchased tickets for next season through the Blues Mini and Junior Cashback scheme

The scheme, which allows juniors aged 16 and under, to allocate their rugby club when they purchase a Junior Season ticket for £40 and then the Blues will give £6 back to their mini and juniors section.

With 19 clubs in Cardiff & Vale, 23 clubs in Taff Rhondda and 14 clubs in Heart of Wales coaching nearly 7,500 minis and juniors over £33,000 could be put back into mini and junior sections.

By being a season ticket holder not only will the Cowbridge RFC mini and juniors be helping their club they will be able to see the Blues Lions Leigh Halfpenny, Alex Cuthbert and Sam Warburton playing for the Blues in Europe’s premier club competition The Heineken Cup. A Cardiff Blues Junior Season Ticket gives you entry to 17 home Cardiff Blues games, which works out at only £2 a game with £6 going back to clubs

Dan Williams, Cowbridge RFC Mini & Juniors Chairman said,

“Regional Rugby Club support needs to be a two way process. The Welsh Regions are struggling financially.

“Cowbridge RFC are a member club of the Blues Region, quite rightly we can expect support from the Blues but similarly we need to start showing our support to our regions.

“Crowds are poor across all the Welsh regions at the moment. All our registered mini & junior players will be season ticket holders next season.

“We hope that this will go some way to boosting numbers and revenue for the Blues. Naturally, far more parents will accompany their children.

“We also hope that our relationship with the Blues will not only continue but filter out to other member clubs in the region.

“At Cowbridge RFC we’re trying to make Blues fixtures a social family event for both the players and the parents.

“We also think it will be beneficial in feeding our young players aspirations to regularly watch the best players.

“It’s an important part of their development and assists them in remaining interested in the team sport of rugby union.

“We’ve got one of the largest & healthiest junior sections in Cardiff and the Vale both on and off the pitch and hope that our partnership with the Blues will go from strength to strength”

One such player that no doubt the youngsters will be aspiring to emulate in Cardiff Blues, Wales and Lions winger Alex Cuthbert who met up with the Cowbridge players this week.

Speaking of the scheme Cuthbert said,

“It’s fantastic that Cowbridge minis and juniors have signed up for the scheme which not only benefits the clubs but also the Blues.

“Having an extra 230 youngsters making a noise at the Arms Park next season getting behind the team will be great for us as players.

“Cowbridge is a strong rugby club that has recently produced my good friend and Blues and Wales teammate Lloyd Williams and I’m sure there will be a few more players coming through over the forthcoming years.”
