CHRISTMAS shoppers in Cardiff had a surprise last week, when Cardiff Blues rugby stars took to one of the busiest city centre shopping spots for special act of festive goodwill.
Xavier Rush, Richie Rees and Ben White were all at the Capitol Centre in Cardiff last Friday helping to gift wrap presents for stressed-out shoppers.
The three players were part of a team of wrappers from Cancer Research Wales – the Cardiff Blues’ nominated charity of the season. The gift-wrapping service was free, but shoppers were encouraged to make a donation to the charity.
Cancer Research Wales, which has its headquarters at Velindre Hospital, funds vital and pioneering research into cancer across Wales.
Liz Andrews, Cancer Research Wales Deputy Fundraising Director said: “We’re really pleased that the Cardiff Blues joined in with our gift wrapping service on Friday. How many people can say they have had their Christmas presents personally wrapped by a famous rugby player?
“Anyone who wants to save time and have their Christmas presents beautifully wrapped on the spot can come along to the Capitol Centre and make use of our service.”
Xavier Rush said: “We are delighted to be supporting Cancer Research Wales, it was great fun and getting stuck into some wrapping on Friday!”
The Cancer Research Wales wrapping service at the Capitol Shopping Centre will run until Christmas Eve.
