Excellent support work and driving play by Ponty saw prop Will Thomas go over for Ponty’s first points.

The try sparked Brecon into action and excellent pressure saw them pin Ponty back on their own try line, but just as it seemed that Brecon were about to score, Ponty stole the ball and Garin Rossiter was sent on his way for a try from behind his own try line. As the first half came to a close, fine play by the forwards saw opposition ball stolen for hooker Jordan Jevons to go on a barging 20 yard run before feeding outside-half Joel Raikes who dived over for a converted try to give Pontypridd a half time lead of 17 – 7.

In the second half Pontypridd scored six unanswered tries, showing the attacking flair that they had shown glimpses of last weekend. The Pontypridd team were led in attack by their forwards who continually won opposition ball and drove a strong Brecon pack all over the field. After continued pressure Brecon dropped the ball behind their try line, with a grinning Gareth Cleaver diving over to claim a fine opportunist try.

Buoyed by their forwards the Ponty backs started to dictate play. Quick passing by Alex Logan fed Dale Hughes who tore open the Brecon defence, racing 30 yards before committing the last man and giving an excellent pass to Joel Raikes who sprinted over for a try that he converted himself. A scrum from the restart saw Joel go blind and feed quick ball to wing Garin Rossiter who again showed fantastic pace to storm away for a fine wingers try.

Continued pressure by Pontypridd saw Brecon concede a penalty that saw Joel Raikes take a quick tap before feeding Dale Hughes who again showed great strength and pace to leave the Brecon defence trailing to score a converted try. The next try came through the forwards with excellent maul work allowing Jake Lewis to drive over. The final score of the match was a hatrick for Joel Raikes who was outstanding on the day. Again excellent forwards play saw Ponty camped in the Brecon half. Quick handling by Chris Jones and Oliver Bailey fed Dale Hughes on the loop, but a fine tackle stopped Dale just short, Joel Raikes picked up to sprint to the line.

TRY scorers for Pontypridd: Will Thomas, Garin Rossiter (2), Joel Raikes (3), Gareth Cleaver, Dale Hughes and Jake Lewis. Joel Raikes kicked 3 Conversions. Man of the Match: Dale Hughes.
