Cardiff Blues kick off their 2010/11 Heineken Cup campaign with a home match against Edinburgh, this Saturday 9 October 5.45pm kick off.

The Blues are obviously familiar with the Magners League Scottish capital side and have already played them in Cardiff this season, notching up a 34 point to 23 bonus point win. Speaking ahead of the match Cardiff Blues Director of Rugby, David Young said,

“Despite our win, I’m sure Edinburgh will come to Cardiff feeling quite confident.”

“I think we’ve only beaten them twice of seven outings in the last couple of seasons so they have always been quite successful against us. “

“In fairness to them they are a quality team and they always cause us problems.”

“Although it was a bonus point win for us they blew a lot of opportunities. If they can nail those opportunities then they will be in with a shout.”

“However, I feel if we can bring our best game to the table they will struggle with our physicality.”

“Looking at our group as a whole, Northampton are flying high and everyone seems to be pointing to those two games in December as make or break for us.”

“However, I think it would be foolish to discount Edinburgh or Castres. Certainly Edinburgh, as we know, can beat anybody on their day and they have demonstrated in the Heineken Cup, so we’ve just got to focus on the first game and make sure we don’t slip up.”

“Castres are typically French, in that they’ve got a 100% win record at home and a 100% loss record away. So we know how strong they’re going to be over in France.”

The Blues have been promoting the match in the local press with a buy one get one free voucher in the South Wales Echo running until tomorrow. (Wednesday 6 October)

Season ticket holders are reminded that they can purchase two additional tickets for the match for only £10 while student tickets are also priced at only £10.
