Women's tournament called off due to Storm Eunice

The final round of the WRU Regional Women’s Under-18 tournament has been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions in Cardiff and damage sustained to the Arms Park.

Cardiff Rugby Under-18s were due to take on the regional counterparts as they set their sights on silverware having recorded a 100 per cent record in the second round of the competition.

However, minor damage caused by Storm Eunice, which had seen a Met Office a red weather warning issued for South Wales, means Cardiff Arms Park is temporarily unable to open.

With an amber warning in place for the remainder of the day and a yellow warning for much of Saturday, the relevant inspections and repairs cannot be made and the tournament has subsequently been cancelled.

A Cardiff Rugby spokesperson said: “It is disappointing to postpone this festival but the health and safety of the players, officials and spectators is of paramount importance.

“The club and contractors worked hard to make the ground safe following Storm Dudley, and the men’s first team were able to train fully on site on Thursday, however additional minor damage was sustained on Friday.

“With further weather warnings over the weekend it is impossible to carry out the relevant safety inspections and the necessary repairs to guarantee the safety of those in attendance.”
