Wilson frustrated by lack of accuracy

26th November 2016

Danny Wilson admits Cardiff Blues must bring more accuracy to their game following a frustrating Guinness PRO12 defeat to Connacht.

Wales’ Capital Region failed to convert two try-scoring opportunities and conceded against the run of play at the Sportsground in Galway.

They battled in vain in the closing stages but were unable to convert pressure into points as the hosts targeted the breakdown and denied the Blues a losing bonus-point.

Wilson was bitterly disappointed that his side failed to add to their tally following a promising first half and concedes mistakes proved costly.

He said: “In the second half we let ourselves down. We got ourselves in a good postion at half-time.

“We certainly defended well and put them under a lot of pressure with our atack but the second half was full of error.

“We created plenty of opportunities and we have to bad hard on ourselves for not putting those opportunities away. We dropped two balls over the line during that game and our contact area wasn’t good enough – we lost way too much ball.

“Connacht deserved their win – they took their opportunities and we didn’t. We lacked accuracy and it’s cost us the result.”

The Blues return to BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park to face Ulster on Saturday night (17.15) and Wilson knows it is a key fixture in a huge run of matches for his side.

He added: “It doesn’t get easier in this block. It’s a really tough block, we have come off two away games in the PRO12, one we have lost and now we have Ulster at home and two European games against Bath.

“They come thick and fast but we’ll train hard this week and look to put things right at the weekend with a home game.”
