Cardiff Rugby are delighted to agree a new contract with Wales international Teddy Williams.
The second-row was due to come out of contract in the summer but he has signed a new deal to remain at the Arms Park as he continues to establish himself as a key leader in Blue & Black.
Williams, who made his senior debut in 2020, has now amassed 50 appearances for the club, hitting the milestone against the Ospreys on New Year’s Day.
He has recently deputised as captain and currently leads the BKT United Rugby Championship charts for tackles made and line outs won.
Cardiff head coach, Matt Sherratt said: “Teddy is a key signing for the club. He is fast developing into a foundation of our pack and a leader in the group. His set piece work and physicality is improving all the time and a major point of difference for Teddy is his game understanding and skill set.
“He is also a Cardiff player. We have been very clear with our ambition of ensuring our home grown players committed to the club and I am delighted that we have secured the services of Teddy.”
Williams is the latest homegrown talent to pledge his future to the club, following renewals for Liam Belcher, Ben Thomas, Alun Lawrence and Cam Winnett.
The former Ysgol Glantaf pupil, who now has two international caps to go with his Cardiff honours, is determined to reach new heights in his burgeoning career.
Williams said: “I’m really enjoying things at Cardiff this season and hopefully we can keep moving in the right direction. I want to be part of a competitive team and I think we have shown this season that we can be competitive, but we have to continue getting better.
“In terms of the pack, I feel like we have improved and it’s been great to work with Corniel van Zyl as forwards coach. We have a strong coaching group and coming from a different environment, Corniel has brought a new perspective and new ideas, which has really helped us collectively.
“On a personal level, its my home club and have come through the pathway with so many of the players here and that definitely makes the day-to-day more enjoyable. Hopefully that translates to our performances on the pitch.
“Captaining the club in the absence of Liam (Belcher) and Ben (Thomas) has been a great honour but I want to do my talking through performances on the pitch and our continued progression.
“I feel like this is the best environment for me to do that and hopefully by improving as a team, I can kick on as an individual.”
