Roger Watkins has been a long time supporter of rugby in Cardiff.
And despite running a successful Insurance Consultancy, which advises on pensions, investments and mortgage requirements; he still finds time to support the team. Nowadays as a suite holder at Cardiff Arms Park, Roger rarely misses a game.
Rogers Working day |
When not supporting Cardiff, Roger runs an Insurance Brokerage and Life & Pensions Company of 35 staff. He enjoys a close relationship with his customers and staff alike. I usually start work at 7.30am and finish at 6pm unless I can finish earlier. The day comprises of solving staff issues, FSA issues and General Broking, which I still enjoy. Invariably most days I visit clients to review existing arrangements or try to gain new business. It may all seem mundane, but it pays for the suite ...and not to mention my Lexus SC430 |
We caught up wit Roger during the week and asked him about some of his Arms Park memories.
Q) What was the earliest memory of supporting Cardiff at Cardiff Arms Park?
A) Standing in the old North Enclosure and looking up we would get soaked even when it wasnt raining if you know what I mean!
Q) Who is your favourite all time player?
A) That would have to be either Barry John or Serge Blanco
Q) Who is your favourite current Cardiff Blues player?
A) Tom Shanklin. He makes good breaks and is the most creative player in the Cardiff Blues backline this season
Q) What is the best try you have ever seen?
A) Well, it would have to be that try by Gareth Edwards for the Baa Baas.
Q) What is the most memorable match that you have watched?
A) Its still fresh in the memory, Wales versus England at Wembley in 1999, what a great day.
Q) From the crop of current youngsters in the Blues squad who do you think is the one to watch for the future?
A) I hope all the young players who are getting a chance will improve once the Blues start wining regularly and gaining confidence.
