Wales Under-20 beaten by Argentina

12th June 2018

Wales Under-20 will be competing for seventh place in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship, following a 39-15 defeat to Argentina in Narbonne on Tuesday.

The Pumitas will now progress to the fifth-placed play-off, where they will face the winner of the Australia v Italy clash, which is being played this afternoon.

Six Cardiff Blues players were involved in the matchday squad, with Rhys Carre, Iestyn Harris and Dane Blacker recalled into Geraint Lewis' starting line-up.

Max Llewellyn was once again named on the bench, alongside Will Davies-King and Ben Thomas, who started at outside half in the last outing against Japan.

Wales made a positive start to the encounter, as tries from Scarlets duo, Ryan Conbeer and Corey Baldwin, saw the men in red race to a 12-8 lead.

However, a late penalty try saw the Pumitas head into the interval with a three-point lead.

The Argentines would hold onto their lead throughout the second half, limiting Wales to a single Cai Evans penalty, and securing a convincing victory with three further tries.
