Lloyd Williams was named the Peter Thomas Player of the Season at an emotional end of season awards evening at Cardiff Arms Park on Thursday.
The departing scrum half, who reached 250 games for the club this season and broke Taufa’ao Filise’s appearance record in the professional era, was personally chosen by Thomas during the final days before his passing and was presented with the award by his daughters, Holly and Stephanie.
The life and achievements of Cardiff's late Life President were celebrated through a touching tribute paid by close friend and former scrum half, Sir Gareth Edwards.
Elsewhere, Max Llewellyn edged Taulupe Faletau and Rhys Priestland to claim the Players’ Player of the Season, while Thomas Young topped the supporters’ vote after a stellar campaign on his return to Cardiff Arms Park.
In a season where he made his international debut, Mason Grady was named the Breakthrough of the Season while former Wales U20 captain Alex Mann was awarded the Academy Player of the Season.
Cardiff Women’s U18s retained their league title this season, with captain Katie Sims and hooker Shanelle Williams claiming the Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards respectively.
After a record-breaking scoring streak, it was Josh Adams who claimed the Try of the Season for his effort in the memorable European victory over Sale Sharks.
Number eight Faletau, who has been a stand-out in his first campaign at the Arms Park, picked up the Defender of the Season award for his epic try-saving tackle against Dragons in the Boxing Day derby.
There was also an opportunity to celebrate the very best of our community game, with Ceri Morgan’s work at the Red Kites hub recognised with the Outstanding Contribution to Community Rugby award.
Finally, Adelle Willis of Fairwater RFC and Joe Gatt of Vale Schools were the winners of the Club and School Recognition awards respectively.
