Povey at the double as Blues edged out

8th December 2014

Full back Curtis Povey continued his outstanding form with a try double as Cardiff Blues Under-18s were narrowly defeated 26-19 by Leicester Tigers Under-18s after a thrilling second half fight-back at The Oval on Sunday.

Blues, currently leading the way in the Regional Championship with an unbeaten record, found themselves 21-5 down to the hosts after a disappointing opening 40 minutes in the East Midlands.

However, they came alive after the break to push the hosts all the way before narrowly losing out.

Povey grabbed a try double while wing Ellis Wyn Benham also crossed the whitewash. Callum Hall kicked the points on offer.

Richard Hodges, Elite Performance Pathway Manager at Blues, said: “We were disappointed with the first half display and were slow to get going. However, the team showed plenty of spirit in the second period and the game leaves us with lots to work on for the New Year.”

Cardiff Blues Under-18s are next in action on January 7 when they face Newport Gwent Dragons at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park. Full details of this game will be announced in the New Year.
