There were plenty of positives on show on Sunday as Cardiff Rugby under-18 made their long-awaited return to action in the first WRU Regional Women’s tournament at Ystrad Mynach.

With international selection for Wales under-18 looming, Darren Bool’s side faced their four fellow Welsh sides in an entertaining day of round robin rugby at the Centre of Sporting Excellence.

Captain and Ysgol Plasmawr pupil, Gwennan Hopkins, led a squad of 25 girls for the team's first outing of the season.

The Blue and Blacks got off to the perfect start against Sunday’s hosts as Gabby Healan and Katy Hudd both crossed the whitewash to seal a 12-0 opening win over Dragons.

The second match of the day Cardiff coming up against an Ospreys side who had recorded a narrow victory over Scarlets in their opening match. However, it was the capital club who made it two from two, thanks to scores from Raylee Caiell and Grace Bellamy - twice converted by Nell Powell.

While Scarlets edged out a tense affair in the third round, coming away with a 7-0 win, the day came to an end with a five-all draw against a strong RGC outfit, with Georgia Morgan racking up the points for the Blue and Blacks on this occasion.

The positive performances give Bool's side a platform to build on as they prepare for the next rounds, which are held at Merthyr RFC (February 13) and Cardiff Arms Park (February 20).
