Nine Cardiff Blues contribute to Wales U20s win

25th February 2017

Nine Cardiff Blues players played their part in Wales Under-20's enthralling 65-34 victory over Scotland at Broadwood Stadium on Friday.

Jason Strange’s side crossed the whitewash on eight occassions, with four of the tries scored by Blues’ representatives.

Outside half Ben Jones also racked up a remarkable 25 points from the boot on a night to remember for the young Wales side.

Wales came flying out of the blocks, and within five minutes of his first start for Wales Under-20’s, centre Cameron Lewis powered his way over from close range to open the scoring.

Scarlets wing Corey Baldwin quickly added a second, before the Ospreys’ Kieran Williams piled further misery on the home side by capping off a wonderful counter attack try.

Scotland finished the first half strongly, narrowing the visitors’ lead to 27-12 at the interval, but within seconds of restarting, full back Rhun Williams was on the end of a awkward bounce to dive in under the posts and secure the bonus point.

Scotland added a third try to their tally, before prop Rhys Carre rumbled over for his second try of the campaign.

The home side secured a bonus point of their own following a try by replacement Andrew Simmers, but Kieran Williams try, followed by Ben Jones’conversion, saw the Welsh go beyond the 50-point mark.

James Botham, making his debut for the Under-20’s side, scored Wales’ seventh try of the night, with replacement Morgan Morris also adding to Wales’ tally.

The try-fest continued until the final play when Scottish wing Robbie Nairn crossed over for a consolation score.
