Mulvihill proud to see Botham's regional form rewarded

First Team News | 17th November 2020

John Mulvihill is proud to see James Botham’s fine regional form being rewarded with a call-up to the Wales squad.

The Cardiff Blues back row withdrew from Monday’s Guinness PRO14 clash against Benetton Rugby, as he is called into Wayne Pivac’s squad ahead of the Autumn Nations Cup clash against Georgia.

Mulvihill is confident Botham has the attributes to make his mark on the international stage, and is proud of the number of players Cardiff Blues have provided Wales during the autumn series, with the back row becoming the ninth player involved.

“It’s really exciting for him and his family,” said the head coach.

“We’re really excited for him as a group, and proud of all of his effort. All of the boys who put on the blue jersey want to change that into red at some point.

“It’s another one that we’ve pushed through in this autumn series, with Shane also being involved with Wales.

“He’s got some physical aggression and he’s very hard on the ball.

“He’s also a very good ball carrier, but what he brings is massive energy to people around him as well so I’m looking forward to seeing him in a red jersey.”
