Davies looking to make up for lost time

2nd November 2018

Seb Davies is fit, firing and "raring to go" as Cardiff Blues aim to get back to winning ways against Zebre on Sunday (2.45pm).

Following a frustrating loss to Toyota Cheetahs, which brought an end to a three-match winning streak in the Guinness PRO14, Wales’ Capital Region are looking to bounce back.

And Davies, who starts at second-row, is looking forward to putting his best foot forward as he continues his comeback from a knee injury.

He said: “I feel good. Everything is sorted, I’m back on the horse and raring to go. It’s frustrating sitting on the side-lines, you can’t say anything like when you’re on the field so I’m looking to get back out there.

“Our performance out in South Africa was nowhere near good enough, it’s all about starting out fast and that’s what we are looking to do.

“Hopefully we can stay in our patterns more than we did last week and that will break them down slowly.

“We had such a good opportunity to score from the driving lineout but they went the length. It’s frustrating and we have done a lot of work this week and we’re looking to put last week right.”

All of the headlines in the build-up to the game have been rightfully around Gethin Jenkins’ imminent retirement from rugby.

Like all players at the Arms Park, Davies has received a stern word or two from the most-capped prop in world rugby and he admits he has learnt a huge amount.

Now he hopes it continues as Jenkins takes up a job on the coaching staff.

He added: “It will be an emotional occasion – he has been a club great for the last decade or more so we want to send him off on a high. He said in the meeting he would still be around the building; he’s transitioning into coaching so he’ll still be here.

“He’s very straight to the point and hard on all on the young boys but he’s been fantastic to learn from.

“There are definitely things he has passed on, he leads us like a player coach and hopefully he will stay with us for the rest of our careers.”
