7th December 2004

In association with Crownford Ltd, Development Officer Dale McIntosh provides the latest update on Heart of Wales rugby in the Blues region.

Heart Of Wales U13’s V PONTYPRIDD U13’s
ABERDARE RFC

H.O.W U13’s gave a very impressive performance against a well organized but outclassed Ponty side at the Ynys.

Ponty found it hard to cope with the physicality and size of the H.O.W. forwards and direct running of the H.O.W. backs.

There was a first half hat trick for wing Cameron Gardener (Brecon) who then left the field after landing on the point of his shoulder.

HOW continued the onslaught after the break with impressive lock Lewis Smout (Brecon) scoring 4 tries, replacement full back Josh Lewis (Aberdare) chipped in with 4 conversations to add to an earlier effort by Luke Offa (Builth Wells).

The good interplay between backs and forwards continued with a high level of continuity due to the tireless work of the flankers Ben Jones (Abercwmboi) and Thomas Young (Aberdare) and they were rewarded for their good work with a try for Jones and two for skipper Young.

To their credit Ponty never gave up and kept trying to the end and were rewarded with a converted try right on the final whistle.

The H.O.W. squad is shaping up nicely and all augers well for their remaining 6 matches.

Final score
H.O.W. 13’s 60 – Pontypridd 13’s 7.
