Chief: Explosive Vosawai will be Blues hit

8th May 2014

Dale McIntosh believes the signing of back row forward Manoa Vosawai is a major coup for Cardiff Blues - as the Italy international can be a big hit both on and off the field.

Man mountain Vosawai will move to Blues from RaboDirect PRO12 rivals Benetton Treviso this summer.

The 30-year-old giant – who has won 14 caps for Italy – will add his explosive power and destructive ball carrying style to the pack at Blues.

But McIntosh insists his impact will also be huge on those around him and the young back row talent being nurtured at the Arms Park.

He said: “Manoa brings real experience to the squad. He is an Italian international and has been part of a professional environment for the last decade.

“We see him as a real mentor for the younger players in the back row to follow and learn off.

“Crucially he is a very explosive ball carrier too, something we have all seen this season once again for Treviso and Italy. We are losing that with the departure of Robin Copeland and so Manoa will definitely fill that void.

“Manoa’s attitude is also absolutely spot on and he will work hard every single day to not only improve himself but also drive those people around him to higher standards.

“He is a very important signing for the group as we look to the future and what we want to achieve and become.”
