Cardiff Rugby will run out against Emirates Lions wearing odd socks to help raise awareness of World Down Syndrome Day and the #LotsOfSocksCampaign.
Wearing one home and one away sock, the Blue & Blacks will join thousands worldwide taking part in the initiative.
Believe it or not, socks get people talking! On March 21 every year it is a global awareness day for Down syndrome, which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.
The goal is to help people understand and support those with Down syndrome better, and the Blue & Blacks will be throwing their support behind the campaign in the BKT United Rugby Championship.
We passionately believe rugby is a game for all. Whether playing, coaching, working within or simply supporting the club, we pride ourselves on being inclusive.
Craig Enticott, Cardiff Rugby Community Foundation’s Inclusion Officer, said: “It is great to show our support for World Down Syndrome Day and the #LotsOfSocksCampaign with our first team squad on Friday night.
“It is a small thing to do but will undoubtedly be noticeable and spark conversation and awareness, which is what it is all about.
“As a Foundation we pride ourselves on proving that there is a jersey for all, no matter your age, gender, ability or anything else.
“We run numerous rugby and educational programs to support people with disabilities.
“Our mascot today, Caleb, has been attending our ICC at Rhondda Fach Centre (Tylorstown) for the past five years. It will be brilliant for Caleb to lead his heroes out at the Arms Park today and to see their support for him and others with Down syndrome.”
If you are coming to the Arms Park tomorrow, why not don your own pair of odd socks! You can also find out more about the initiative or donate here.
