Cardiff Rugby will launch a new sustainability strategy this summer in collaboration with principal partner RSK and environmental specialists Nature Positive.
The new strategy will build on the Blue & Blacks growing commitment to sustainability and set out a long-term vision and game-plan to reduce environmental impact, protect nature and support communities across the Welsh capital and wider region.
Climate, Nature, People.
Focussing on three core areas – climate, nature and people – the strategy solidifies Cardiff Rugby’s evergreen ambition to become a leader in sustainable sport.
Jamie Muir, Managing Director at Cardiff Rugby, said: “Sustainability is central to not only the future of our club and our city, but all of us in every facet of our lives.
“We are enormously grateful to RSK and Nature Positive for working with us to build a strategy that will help Cardiff Rugby become a leader in sustainable sport.

“We want to drive meaningful change through action, partnership and inspiration, ensuring we protect the environment and support our communities while securing a strong future for rugby in Cardiff.”
A decade long sustainability journey
Cardiff Rugby’s sustainability journey has been underway for more than a decade but has grown in focus and significance in recent years.
Principal Partners RSK, who specialise in environmental and engineering services, have been integral to this, supported by a number of businesses across the wider RSK group, including Nature Positive and Copper.
Cardiff already work with a host of environment-focussed companies including BYD, Macron, Smiths, Olleco, Floodlighting Electrical and Pledgeball.
The club has made progress in reducing its environmental footprint through initiatives such as LED lighting upgrades, the adoption of 100% green energy tariffs and improved waste separation and recycling.
This will be taken further by embedding sustainability into everyday operations at the Arms Park and across the club’s wider activities, ensuring Cardiff Rugby can thrive for generations to come.
The strategy aligns with national and global frameworks, including FOR Cardiff and One Planet Cardiff’s environmental standards and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, to ensure the club’s actions contribute to wider efforts to tackle climate change, restore nature and strengthen community wellbeing.

The three focus areas will help guide all decisions, partnerships and investment moving forward, with new goals set and greater accountability and transparency.
As part of the strategy, a new role has been created to ensure the club remains at the forefront of suitability in sport and continues to drive positive change.
Rhianon Griffiths, Safety and Sustainability Coordinator at Cardiff Rugby, added: “It has been brilliant to step into a wider role with a focus on sustainability, which is becoming more and more important in our everyday lives.
“This strategy is about turning our ambition into action. We are already taking important steps to reduce our environmental impact, while our Foundation does so much to inspire, engage and improve opportunities for all, but this next phase will help us build on that progress.
“By working closely with supporters, partners and local communities, we have an opportunity to create a lasting legacy that can reach far beyond the pitch.”
