Cardiff Rugby Community Foundation welcomed the stars of the future to Tonyrefail RFC recently, as they hosted their first Rhondda Girls Rugby Festival.

More than 50 aspiring rugby players from four local schools took part in the festival, with more than half of them getting their first taste of rugby in a competitive environment.

In the build up to the festival, Cardiff Rugby community officer Craig Enticott held a five-week block of rugby sessions to gradually introduce the girls to the sport.

The aftermath of the festival has seen a majority of the participants going on to explore further opportunities within schools, local rugby clubs and girls hubs such as Rhondda Miners.

The festival was part of a wider initiative by the Community Foundation to increase participants throughout the region, offering various opportunities for beginners to take part in the sport.
