Cardiff Blues under-16 ran out comfortable winners against their Dragons counterparts as they enjoyed a 31-12 victory at Ystrad Mynych in the WRU Easter Festival.

Wales' Capital Region produced a clinical performance in attack, outscoring their opponents by five tries to two in a deserved win.

The Cardiff Blues youngsters, led by head coaches Craig Everett and Aled James, built a seven-point lead at the interval, thanks to tries from Cameron Winnett, Iwan Jones and Cole Morgan.

The side, which combined the finest players from this year's Regional Age Grade North and South sides, dominated the second half, with Efan Daniel and Amir Saleh crossing the whitewash in the second half.

A trip to Swansea's St Helen's is next on the card for the Blues, as they take on a Scottish representative side on Friday.

The visitors had to wait 10 minutes to register the first score, as a well-worked move from a line-out saw the ball quickly moved into midfield, with centre Immanuel Feyi-Waboso straightening the line, beating a couple of defenders and feeding full-back Winnett, who cantered over the line for a try converted by fly-half Ben Burnell.

A second try duly followed just minutes later as a smart move from the backs saw space created out wide for wing Jones to race in at the corner.

Having seen the Blues dominate the opening quarter of the match, the home side soon hit back through their forwards and when a penalty was kicked to the corner, the Dragons pack successfully secured line-out ball and pushed their way over for a try from a rolling maul.

With the visitors struggling with their discipline and maul defence, the Dragons went about exposing any weaknesses, and with another penalty kicked to the corner their forwards once again worked their way over for a second try off a rolling maul. Outside half Joe Westwood levelled the scores at 12-12 with the resulting conversion.

The Blues responded swiftly and retook the lead when quick ball off a scrum saw centre Morgan burst onto a pass and crash his way over from close range with Burnell adding the extras to give them a 19-12 half-time lead.

A strong start to the second-half from Cardiff Blues saw them increase their lead, as hooker Daniel profited from a strong charge by his forward pack, scoring off the back of a rolling maul, with Burnell pushing his side’s lead out even further with a conversion.

Both sides were reduced to fourteen men for repeated infringements as the match descended into a scrappy affair.

Everett and James' side secured the win with a score against the run of play when Burnell spotted a gap in behind and kicked ahead for wing Saleh to race onto and score his side’s fifth and final try.
