Cardiff Blues South Under 16 restart campaign with impressive victory

30th January 2019

Cardiff Blues South under 16 restarted their Regional Age Grade Championship campaign with an impressive bonus point win over Ospreys West at St Helen's, Swansea.

Cardiff Blues South went into Tuesday's clash sitting on top of the table, having secured four wins from four matches in the early-season block of games.

It took only two minutes for the Blues to open their account for the evening, as outside half, Gruff Tough, manufactured space for Immanuel Feyi-Waboso to cross over under the sticks.

Man-of-the-match Dan Carey, Iwan Johnes and Iwan Prys Jones linked up for the visitors' second score of the game, with the jet-heeled wing side-stepping past the final defender to touch down in the corner.

Prys Jones almost went over for another sensational second try before the end of the half, however was denied by a high tackle from number eight, Oscar Muxworthy. Referee Thomas Carew had no option but to award Wales' Capital Region a penalty try to extend the lead to 19-points at the break.

Scrum half Brandon Jones did strike back for the hosts early after the interval, but wing David Nzamba showed a combination of pace and power to seal the bonus point for the South.

Ospreys' Lewis Walker crossed for the final try of the game, but Cardiff Blues South maintained their perfect record to stretch their lead on top of the Conference.

Wednesday sees Cardiff Blues North under 16, who have three wins from three so far, host their Scarlets East counterparts at Sardis Road, while Cardiff Blues under 18 travel to Ystrad Mynach to take on Dragons.
