Brew and Mustoe join Blues

1st May 2008

Cardiff Blues can confirm they have signed 21 year old Ospreys winger Aled Brew and fellow Ospreys winger 26 year old Richard Mustoe.

Brew rejoined the Ospreys ahead of the 2007–2008 season after spending the previous season on loan to the Newport Gwent Dragons, in which he linked up with his brother Nathan at Rodney Parade.

Brew was an asset to the Dragons during the 2006–2007 season, making a staggering 31 appearances and scoring a highly impressive 16 tries; he also finished as joint top try-scorer in the European Challenge Cup.

Brew has represented Wales at U16, U18 and U21 levels, as well as appearing in the Wales Sevens. He was called into Wales's squad for the 2007 RBS Six Nations, making his senior debut as a replacement in the match against Ireland. Brew was also named as part of Gareth Jenkins's squad for the two-Test tour of Australia in May 2007; he gained his second Welsh cap in the second Test defeat in Brisbane.

Richard Mustoe - who has made 19 appearances for the Dragons this season since joining them on a season long loan from the Ospreys - has also signed with the Blues.

The former Bridgend and Celtic Warriors man has also played for Wales at U16, U18 and U19 level, as well as playing Sevens for Wales, appearing in the 2006–2007 IRB World Seven Series. He notched a try in Wales's Plate semi-final win against USA in Hong Kong; and was part of the team that triumphed over Argentina for the trophy.

Speaking of the signings Cardiff Blues Chief Executive Robert Norster said,
“Both Aled and Richard are quality Welsh players who will give us options behind the scrum for next season. These signings are sure to strengthen the competition for places and provides us valuable strength in depth as we aim to build on the improvements we have seen this season.”

Last week Cardiff Blues confirmed Ceri Sweeney would be joining the team for 2008/9 and that Dai Flanagan had also been re-signed.
