The Blues started their Magners League campaign strongly with a bonus point win over Edinburgh last Saturday, which now takes their winning streak to nine games in all competitions since March.
They now face a stiff challenge this Saturday, 6.30pm kick off at the RDS, as they take on a Leinster team that they have not beaten in their last six encounters and who have won their last 15 Magners League regular season matches at the RDS.
Leinster tripped up 19-22 in Glasgow on the opening weekend but have not begun a season with successive losses since 2003/04.
Speaking ahead of the match, Cardiff Blues Director of Rugby, David Young, said,
“What we’ve said as a group of players and management is, that this is the strongest squad we’ve ever had and we’ve got to use it.”
“What we don’t want is to have a first team and a second team. You can’t play one team one week, and then pile everybody else in, the stats shows that show it doesn’t work.”
Speaking of the injuries, Young added,
“Leigh Halfpenny won’t be available while Ben Blair has had an injection in his knee to settle it down.”
“Paul Tito is struggling with his calf and Gethin Jenkins has had a bump on his shoulder so we will look at all these players on Thursday.”
“We know that Leinster lost to Glasgow in the opening weekend, but a lot of teams visit Glasgow and lose, so it’s nothing to be ashamed off.”
“I think any team that writes Leinster off are foolish, if you look at last weekend’s team they had none of their internationals on the pitch.”
“We know what they bring. They are very physical up front with some strong ball carriers, they are confrontational and carry hard and direct and we know we have to muscle up to stop that.”
The squad to face Leinster will be announced online on Friday at 12.00pm.
