Attack Coach Paul John admits the race for places in the Wales set-up for the Rugby World Cup will give Sunday's Guinness PRO12 clash with Scarlets added spice.
Cardiff Blues head to West Wales and Parc y Scarlets looking to repeat the 21-9 success they enjoyed when the teams met in December.
John insists pride in the jersey and a determination to perform in a big Welsh derby will be motivation enough for his team.
However, he acknowledges the chance to represent Wales in the showpiece tournament later this year will also throw up some big personal battles on the day.
Warren Gatland will name an extended squad in early June for training camps in Switzerland, Qatar, north Wales before it is cut to the permitted 31 for September’s start to the World Cup.
“A lot of the boys are looking to put their hands up for the World Cup squad,” said John.
“I think Warren is going to name 45 or 46 players for the training camps and getting in it has to be the objective for all our Welsh players.
“So they will want to finish the season on a high and do something to either win or solidify a place and the game with the Scarlets is one the selectors will be looking at.
“A few places in the Wales squad will be up for grabs and they will be playing against their mates and rivals for the Welsh shirt so it’s added incentive.”
