Wilson vows to send strong Euro squad

10th November 2015

Head Coach Danny Wilson has vowed that his big guns will make the trip to face Calvisano in the European Rugby Challenge Cup opener on Saturday.

Cardiff Blues head to the Peroni Stadium in Italy for the first game in the pool stages this weekend.

And Wilson has promised that his team will give Calvisano the respect they deserve as they look to secure a crucial victory.

“First and foremost we are going to win a game of rugby. We will pick a side that we feel will do that job for us,” said Wilson.

“The discussion all week has been about the last time we went to Italy when we had a bad day and a bad performance.

“It was our only really bad day this season in terms of performance so we want to make sure this week is about having the right attitude.

“We will give Calvisano the respect they deserve because if we allow them to they can cause problems. The Wales internationals will be involved.”

Reflecting on the Glasgow fixture, Wilson believes there is much to be positive to build on as the focus switches to European rugby.

“Although the result was a loss there were huge amounts of positives to come out of it,” added Wilson, who revealed Josh Navidi and Blaine Scully were pushing for recalls.

“We tactically got things executed and it was small things against the league champions cost is the game.

“We have to draw on the positives and now we go to a similar venue to Zebre and face opposition who are very physical.

“If we can produce what we have in patches against Glasgow, Ulster, Munster then we should go to Calvisano, even though we will give them respect, and get a performance and result.”
