Tomos Williams was quietly satisfied with Cardiff Blues European Challenge Cup victory over Newcastle Falcons but believes the scoreboard flattered his side.
The scrum-half finished a decisive try in the second-half, which saw Wales’ Capital Region regain the lead in a scrappy encounter.
Williams, who recently returned from injury, received an offload from Hallam Amos, who collected his own up-and-under, and raced clear before the Blues put the game to bed,
He was pleased with the performance and result as the capital city outfit inflicted a first defeat of the season on the Falcons.
The 25-year-old said: “It definitely didn’t feel comfortable. They were very physical and put up a very good fight, especially in the first half but luckily we did enough in the end and the scoreboard made it look a bit better than it was.
“The try was big momentum shift. We had a penalty and there was just a point or two in it. The Hallam did very well and it was that momentum shift we needed.
“All in all it was a really good performance. The boys are really happy with the win. In recent form we have struggled a bit so to come up hereon a wet night and get that win is pleasing
“I’m just happy to be back on the pitch and playing. The Welsh boys have come back in and made a massive difference and all credit to the pack, they really stood up.”
