Turnbull enjoying versatility

21st April 2016

Josh Turnbull has become Mr Versatile at Cardiff Blues this season but as long as he is on the pitch he is determined to offer the same physical edge.

The Wales international has packed down in the second-row and across the back-row so far and has been a standout performer.

He is loving every second at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park and is pleased with his form as the Guinness PRO12 comes to a thrilling conclusion.

Turnbull said: “I’ve worn 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

“I don’t think my rugby changes whatever number I’ve got on my back. I’ll still go out and do the same thing every week - big tackles, big carries, high collision dominance, clean rucks, drive lineouts.

“The way the Blues have been playing recently it’s a case of not having a number on your back in open play.

“Something we have worked on this year is every player being able to pass or receive. Danny (Wilson) wants the forwards to be able to pass the ball and link up.

“Whatever number I’ve had on my back, the rugby has gone well. I am just enjoying it.

“The only thing I will say is scrummaging in the second row is a little bit harder than in the back row!”

Cardiff Blues are still in the hunt for a top six finish in the PRO12 with a Judgement Day clash with the Ospreys up next.

They must win the Principality Stadium encounter to keep their hopes alive and Turnbull is relishing the occasion.

“You want to be playing in those games,” added the 28-year-old.

“It’s an opportunity to set a marker down and it’s a great advert for Welsh rugby this Judgement Day. The boys start building towards it and there’s real excitement.

“We haven’t beaten the Ospreys in five years, so it’s a bit of a daunting task. But we hadn’t done the double over the Scarlets for six or seven years and we changed that.

“Those little incentives keep the boys going and we want to pick them off one by one really.”
