Aspiring young coach Liam Scott has been awarded the Tinys Choice Award for the month of November.
Liam was nominated by Capital Rugby development officer Gary Knowles for the outstanding work and commitment he has shown over the last twelve months and believes that he is on the way to becoming a fine young coach.
Liam is studying for an NVQ in sports science and Glan Hafren, and through playing rugby, was given the chance to help out with some coaching at the college. As a result, Liam says he has now been hit by the coaching bug and the he would like to make a career of it.
Development Officer Gary Knowles was full of praise for Liam and commented, When I first met Liam he was a very raw product! But I have to give credit to him, the amount of work he has put in has been remarkable. I started coaching at Glan Hafren just over 12 months ago and I got Liam involved in coaching as part of the NVQ he is studying and he has taken the opportunity with both hands.
Gary was also quick to highlight the amount of responsibility that Liam has taken onto his broad, but young, shoulders.
Liam has got to such a level now that he is able to lead coaching sessions with up to 35 children involved. He realistically has more than enough potential to become a Development Officer.
I must say, much of his development came during the summer when he helped both myself and development officer Gruff Rees with our summer camps at the various leisure centres across Cardiff. He was constantly looking to help us and through that prolonged period of coaching he came on leaps and bounds.
Its so encouraging for me as a Development Officer to see that not only is the Capital rugby development scheme providing the next generation of players but also the next generation of coaches.
Liam has already got the next few years planned out as he aims to obtain his qualifications in Sports Science at Coleg Glan Hafren and then move on to the University of Glamorgan to continue his education in the same subject.
Keep an eye out for this young man who is well on his way to becoming a fine rugby coach.
