Thomas seeks 80 minute performance after derby success

Dan Thomas has called on Cardiff to produce an 80 minute performance after they secured an important BKT United Rugby Championship victory over the Ospreys.

The Blue & Blacks were hugely impressive at a packed Arms Park and dominated large periods.

However, with a 24-7 lead as the hour mark passed, Cardiff were unable to claim a crucial fourth try and instead weathered an Ospreys storm.

The visitors scored two late tries to set up a tense finale but Cardiff held on to make it two derby wins in two weeks.

BKT Player of the Game, Thomas, who grabbed one of Cardiff’s three tries, was delighted with the win but he wants more – a complete performance.

He said: “Obviously it wasn’t the ideal ending, and we could have done with getting five points but we always make it entertaining.

“If I’m honest, we aren’t happy with that 80-minute performance. There were parts of the game we will be quite happy with and we controlled the game good in parts but we are yet to see that 80 minute performance this season.

“Hopefully now in the business end of the season that will come. But most important is that we celebrate the win together now and enjoy it.”

With two rounds of regular season action remaining, Cardiff have one foot in the play-offs.

They need to secure five points from their remaining fixtures to qualify without relying on other results, but the likelihood is fewer points will be enough.

Cardiff travel away to Glasgow before hosting DHL Stormers at the Arms Park on May 15. Tickets are available now!
