Support Your Rugby Choir!

15th January 2007

The Cardiff Blues have a new supporters’ choir - and they need your support!

The choir members are all fans of the Blues - some complete novice singers, others seasoned choir members - to compete against choirs from the other Welsh rugby regions.

On S4C's new series Codi Canu the Blues choir could win the ultimate prize.. an opportunity to sing the national anthem before the Wales v England match in this year's Six Nations’ Championship.

Rehearsals have been held since September. Although the Blues Choir is the smallest, they have completed some pretty big challenges, including

Performing within the walls of Cardiff prison Choirmasters Eilir Owen Griffiths and Delyth Medi Lloyd were showing signs of nerves before they ventured into the prison, but the Blues certainly bonded while performing a Christmas concert for the prisoners. The security was so tight that even choir captain, the world-famous rugby icon Gareth Edwards had to show his I.D!

The rehearsals under Delyth and Eilir’s leadership have been going well, with the Blues certainly winning the ‘most club shirts worn to practice’ competition! They have been struck by some bad luck too - the scheduled performance at Cardiff’ Winter Wonderland was cancelled due to gale-force winds at the beginning of December.

Delyth and Eilir have created a closely-knit team of singers here at the Arms Park - but only time will tell whether the Blues Choir will be good enough to win the competition.

The Codi Canu series kicks off on S4C on January the 27th and visit www.s4c.co.uk/codicanu and select either the English or the Welsh language version to see how the rehearsals have gone for the Blues choir so far.

CEFNOGWCH GÔR Y CEFNOGWYR!

Mae côr cefnogwyr newydd gan y Gleision - ac maen nhw angen eich cefnogaeth chi! Cafodd y côr ei ffurfio o blith y cefnogwyr – rhai ohonynt yn gantorion profiadol ac eraill heb ganu mewn côr o'r blaen - er mwyn cystadlu yn erbyn tri rhanbarth rygbi arall Cymru.

Ar y gyfres newydd Codi Canu ar S4C, bydd y côr newydd hwn yn cystadlu am y fraint o gael canu’r anthem genedlaethol yn Stadiwm y Milenniwm cyn gêm Cymru v Lloegr ym Mhencampwriaeth y Chwe Gwlad eleni.

Mae'r ymarferion wedi dechrau ers mis Medi, ac efallai nad oes un o'r corau wedi gorfod wynebu sialens mwy na'r Gleision. Bu’n rhaid i gôr y Gleision berfformio tu mewn i waliau carchar Caerdydd. Roedd yr arweinyddion - Eilir Owen Griffiths a Delyth Medi Lloyd - yn naturiol yn nerfus cyn iddynt fentro i mewn. Ond llwyddodd y côr gyngerdd Nadolig hwyliog gerbron y carcharorion. Roedd y diogelwch yn llym, bu hyd yn oed yn rhaid i'r capten, y cyn chwaraewr rygbi enwog, Gareth Edwards, ddangos ei I.D. I brofi pwy oedd e!

Mae'r ymarferion dan ofal Delyth ac Eilir wedi mynd yn dda hyd yn hyn. Ond mae anlwc wedi taro côr Caerdydd hefyd - cafodd eu perfformiad yng Ngwyl Gaeaf Dinas Caerdydd ei ganslo oherwydd gwyntoedd cryfion iawn yn y brifddinas ddechrau Rhagfyr.

Mae Côr y Gleision yn uned glos iawn bellach – ond amser a ddengys os ydynt yn ddigon da i ennill y gystadleuaeth. Cewch weld yn fuan. Bydd y gyfres Codi Canu yn dechrau ar S4C ar Ionawr 27, felly gwyliwch ac ymwelwch â www.s4c.co.uk/codicanu i ddangos eich cefnogaeth i gôr y Gleision.
