Smith leads Blues in Premiership 7s Series

Former Wales Sevens international Richard Smith will lead Cardiff Blues in the first-ever Welsh stage of the Premiership Rugby 7s Series at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park this Saturday evening.

The iconic home of the Cardiff Blues will host the opening round of the highly successful and popular Premiership Rugby 7s Series that has taken English rugby by storm in recent years, with all the fun of fast summer rugby kicking off at 7.15pm.

It is the first time that the four Welsh regions have competed in the series, with the two teams who finish top of the pile after an evening of fast-moving sevens action going through to the final at Twickenham Stoop on Friday, August 8.

Smith will captain the Blues on the night and is named in a talented and exciting 12-man squad for the 7s opener that features six thrilling derby clashes between the four Welsh regions on the night.

First team ace Dan Fish is also part of the 7s set-up while scrum half Tomos Williams and back row Ben Roach feature after impressing for Wales Under-20s in the Junior World Championships in New Zealand this summer.

New signing Geraint Walsh will also make his debut in a Blues jersey, after making the switch from Pontypridd, while the likes of Seb Davies, Garyn Smith, Owen Jenkins and Aled Summerhill will all be out to impress after becoming first team squad members this season.

A total of 10 players out of the 12-man squad are Academy members or graduates with youngsters like Ellis Wyn Benham and Dafi Davies among the young crop keen to impress in front of the television cameras.

“It’s great to see so many home-grown players involved and products of our successful rugby pathway at Blues in the squad.

“The Premiership Rugby 7s Series will give our fans the chance to see many of the young stars in our set-up who are eager to shine.

“The event is a great concept that has grown every year in England so supporters can look forward to six fast-paced and exciting games that come thick and fast  on the night. It will be a great way to open the new BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.”

Season Ticket holders are reminded they get a huge 50 per cent discount, and can buy adult tickets for just £5 for seated and £4 for standing - just quote your membership number at the time of purchase. Concessions tickets are £3 for seated and £2 for standing. Standard adult prices are £10/£8 for standing. Concessions will be £5/£4.
