Cardiff Blues’ scrum-half Richard Smith is awaiting a second scan on his neck following the injury he received in the pre-season friendly match against Northampton Saints last Friday.
Smith was stretchered off the field in the 57th minute following a heavy tackle and was kept overnight in hospital.
He told today,
“Obviously I was worried about the extent of the injury, particularly when they kept me on a spinal bed until the following morning.
“But I had full movement and feeling in my arms and it was a great relief when the MRA scan confirmed that nothing in my neck was broken and that there was no damage to the discs.”
Richard is now resting at home with his neck in a brace and preparing for a CT scan on Tuesday. The result of that will give a clearer picture of the time-scale before he can contemplate returning to action with the Blues’ squad.
