Sherratt makes five changes for final match of the season at the Arms Park

First Team News | 26th April 2024

Head coach Matt Sherratt has made five changes to his starting XV for tomorrow afternoon’s BKT United Rugby Championship match against Edinburgh at Cardiff Arms Park (15.05 KO).

It will be the final time the Blue & Blacks play a home game at the famous Arms Park this season.

There are three changes in the pack as Ellis Jenkins comes in for Thomas Young at openside flanker where he will make his final appearance for Cardiff at the Arms Park before his retirement at the end of the season.

Elsewhere Rhys Carré swaps in for Corey Domachowski at loosehead prop who moves to the bench and Mackenzie Martin replaces Taulupe Faletau after he was ruled out for the rest of the season with the shoulder injury sustained against Ulster last week.

In the backs, loan-signing Gonzalo Bertranou will make his first start for the Blue and Blacks and Harri Millard replaces Josh Adams who is out with a groin injury.

Head coach Matt Sherratt, said: “Last week was a really difficult result to take but we said right away on the pitch in Belfast that we needed to take that emotional energy into Edinburgh.

“We have had a good week in training but Edinburgh are a quality team and they will be highly motivated with the race for the play-offs.

“So we will need to be at our best and I have no doubt that the boys will give it their absolute everything in the last home game of the season at Cardiff Arms Park.

“It will be an emotional one for the likes of Ellis Jenkins and Rhys Carré, and I really hope we can give them a good send off.

“But it is also important that we put in the kind of performance our supporters deserve. They have been absolutely fantastic this season, they have stuck with us and we really want to thank them and give them something to celebrate.”

Flanker James Botham returns to the match day squad after overcoming the knee injury he sustained for Wales in the opening match of their Six Nations campaign against Scotland. He is joined there by Evan Lloyd, Domachowski, Ciaran Parker, Rory Thornton, Young, Ellis Bevan and Jacob Beetham

18 of the match-day squad are products of the Cardiff pathway system.
