Regional All Star Ultimate XV | Full Back

First Team News | 8th May 2020

It's time to vote for the final position of the Regional All Star Ultimate XV, with Cardiff Blues' all-time top point scorer in the mix.

It's a star-studded, mouth-watering battle for the number 15 jersey, with four international class full backs vying for the final spot in the Ultimate XV.

In the Cardiff Blues corner, we have All Blacks international and the region's top point scorer, Ben Blair, who looks to join fellow Cardiff Blues players - Gethin Jenkins, Josh Navidi, Jamie Roberts and Alex Cuthbert - in the side.

All Black Ben Blair arrived at Cardiff Blues in 2006 and cemented himself as one of the region’s finest exports, becoming the top point scorer and the only player to rack up more than 1,000 points.

One of the most consistent players from the tee, which has perhaps over-shadowed the fact that Blair was also a highly intelligent rugby player, who was positionally strong and a great reader of the game. No doubt would've mentored Leigh Halfpenny as a youngster, Blair was as solid as they came in defence while also capable of causing problems with ball in hand when he joined the line.

Played his part in Cardiff Blues' EDF Energy Cup and Amlin Cup success, while his touchline conversion led the infamous Heineken Cup semi final against Leicester Tigers in 2009 into extra time.

He's up against Dragons' former Springbok, Percy Montgomery, and Wales duo Liam Williams and Lee Byrne of Scarlets and Ospreys respectively.
