Cardiff Blues and Wales second row forward Lou Reed was the special guest at the Blues Schools Tag Festival
Reed who will be traveling to Japan this summer to tour with Wales welcomed hundreds of children to the Arms Park for the Blues Schools Tag Festival.
The festival has grown every year and this season the four-day event for children aged between six and eleven will see over 150 schools across Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, RCT, Merthyr and South Powys taking part.
Speaking at the event Lou Reed said,
“We’ve been around the region in Penygraig and Brecon training in front of the youngsters so it’s great to be able to come down and see them play.
“All the kids seem to be having fun which is the main thing.
“It’s a great day out for all the schools.”
Cardiff Blues Development Officer Nadine Griffiths added:
“It’s absolutely great to see this amount of kids enjoying playing in the Arms Park again this year.
“The support from the schools has been brilliant.
“It gives them a chance to put into practice a lot of the skills that they’ve learnt throughout the year.
“It’s all about fun. We don’t record any scores, winners or losers, every school that enters gets a trophy for participation boys and girls having a go and having fun.”
“The festival is open to all school across the region.
“We have two days for the south so that’s Cardiff and Vale.
“Then on Thursday and Friday the north of the region will come down so those are teams from Powys, Merthyr, Cynon Valley, Pontypridd and Rhodda so it’s a great occasion and gives school the chance to play against new and different schools.

“The kids really enjoy playing rugby and the day has been brilliant for them
“The school comes down every year and it’s a highlight for many.
“We don’t get enough team games so having a day like this is very helpful and really inspires the kids to play.
“The Blues players are role models for the pupils so to get to meet Lou today was fantastic”
