Saturday 18 November Abergavenny RFC

On a freezing November morning both sides took the field with Pontypool hoping to avenge their defeat earlier in the season.

Straight from the kick off both sides showed their intent and spun the ball wide. Only handling errors and courageous tackling prevented any score. Just before half time, Max Wilson (Coryton) made a run, popped the ball to supporting player Lewis Kirk (Trowbridge) who set up a ruck. The forwards, led by the ever present Jordan Viggers (Rumney) cleaned the Pooler pack out and a quick ball from Michael Hale (Ysgol Bro Eirwg) to skipper, Mathew Marley (Creigiau), saw him go over under the posts.

Substitutions at half time saw Cardiff dominate the remainder of the game. As the Cardiff side settled, they grew in confidence. Superb handling along the back line from Callum Sheedy (St. Peters), and Andrew Corfield (Llandaff Church in Wales) saw Mathew Marley cross for his second. This was comfortably converted by outside half Lewis Pearce (Oakfield).

The match was finished off with tries from wingers Callum McDonald (Trowbridge) and Joseph ‘Speedy’ Williams (Lisvane), both of whom gave outstanding performances. Man of the match was prop, and often unsung hero, Jack Marshall (Rhiwbina) who led fearlessly from the front.

The final score was Pontypool 0 – Cardiff 26
