Pledgeball returns for Boxing Day derby

Cardiff Rugby welcome Dragons to Cardiff Arms Park on Boxing Day for the second of three Festive Derbies this season, and the club’s second Pledgeball fixture, following the opening derby against Scarlets.

This season, Cardiff Rugby is working with Pledgeball before, during and after each Welsh derby at Cardiff Arms Park, encouraging supporters to consider the impact they can make away from the pitch by taking small, nature-friendly actions.

With the festive period bringing increased indulgence and excess, supporters are being asked to reflect on how simple changes to daily routines can help protect the green spaces around us.

By making small, positive adjustments, such as reducing shower time or choosing vegetarian meals a few days a week, fans can play their part in supporting Cardiff Rugby’s sustainability efforts.

What is a pledge?

A pledge is a commitment to try one small, nature-friendly action. Supporters who make a pledge in the name of Cardiff Rugby will be entered into a prize draw to win a signed rugby ball or four tickets to the Sky Lodge.

Every pledge also contributes to Cardiff Rugby’s position on the Pledgeball leaderboard, as supporters compete with fans of other clubs to make the biggest collective impact.

All supporters who make a pledge before midnight on matchday will be entered into the draw.

The power of collective action

Rugby supporters have the power to drive real change, with collective action leading to significant environmental impact:

  • A Cardiff Arms Park full of fans switching to a green energy supplier would be equivalent to 2,267 cars being taken off the road
  • A stadium of supporters buying eco-friendly or second-hand gifts would be equivalent to 878 cars off the road
  • If Cardiff Rugby’s X followers cycled to work, it would be equivalent to 8,708 cars off the road
  • If all 12,125 supporters at Cardiff Arms Park switched to green energy, it would equate to 1,491 cars off the road

Pledgeball reaction

Katie Cross, CEO of Pledgeball, said:

“I’m excited to see Cardiff fans continue to demonstrate their passion for protecting where we play, looking after the green spaces around us and building on the emissions savings already made this season.”

Supporters attending the Boxing Day derby are encouraged to make their pledge and help Cardiff Rugby continue to drive positive change on and off the pitch.
